The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recognized the Honda Element as a 2008 "Top Safety Pick." The award was based on several extensive tests, including a frontal-offset crash test, side crash test and rear-impact test. In addition, each winner was required to have electronic stability control available as either standard equipment or as an option. Active safety systems such as stability control can help drivers avoid collisions altogether.
